Dr. Oriol Porta is a gynecologist and pelvic floor specialist with more than 30 years of experience in women’s health. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa in Barcelona, Spain.

Expertise and Professional Work

Dr. Oriol’s main areas of interest include chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, urogynecology, and women’s sexual and reproductive health.

His work emphasizes multidisciplinary, patient-centered pelvic pain care. In 2014, he completed advanced training in chronic pelvic pain at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. This experience strengthened his interest in collaboration across specialties when treating complex pelvic pain conditions.

Dr. Oriol serves on the board of Convergences PP and has participated in international initiatives focused on pelvic health. His research has included pelvic floor disorders, pelvic pain, and biomaterials. He has also taught medical students, residents, and postgraduate healthcare professionals for many years.

Through his clinical, research, and educational work, Dr. Oriol aims to connect scientific knowledge with patients’ everyday needs and improve the recognition and management of pelvic pain.

Education and Training

Dr. Oriol received his medical degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1994 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital General de Granollers in Spain. He later developed a clinical and academic focus on urogynecology, pelvic floor disorders, and chronic pelvic pain at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa in Barcelona.

He completed an observership at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London in 2014 and earned his PhD through the doctoral program at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2015.

Dr. Oriol has remained involved in medical education as an associate professor and clinical educator, teaching and mentoring students, residents, and postgraduate professionals.

Current Practice

Dr. Oriol currently leads the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa. He also continues to teach and mentor medical students, residents, and postgraduate professionals.

As part of a multidisciplinary chronic pelvic pain team, he treats patients with chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and other complex gynecologic conditions.

His work focuses particularly on the relationship between pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and quality of life. He collaborates with gynecologists, pain specialists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care.
