Supuni Kapurubandara
MBBS, BSc (Med), FRANZCOG, AGES, AATP
Sydney, Australia
Dr. Supuni Kapurubandara is a consultant obstetrician and gynecologist, clinician-researcher, and Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney. She specializes in complex benign gynecologic conditions, including chronic pelvic pain, endometriosis, adenomyosis, and pelvic floor dysfunction.
Expertise and Professional Work
Dr. Kapurubandara provides multidisciplinary care for patients with persistent pelvic pain and other complex gynecologic conditions. She has advanced training in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery through an Australasian Gynaecological Endoscopy & Surgery fellowship.
As a PhD candidate at the University of New South Wales, her research focuses on the experiences of women living with persistent pelvic pain and on improving diagnostic pathways for pelvic floor myalgia.
Dr. Kapurubandara serves as Chair of the AGES Pelvic Floor Special Interest Group and as a committee member of the NSW Pelvic Pain Network. She is also a member of the vNOTES Special Interest Group for the International Society for Gynecologic Endoscopy.
Her educational and community work includes co-authoring screening tools for general practitioners and specialists, as well as teaching and mentoring medical students and future specialists.
Education and Training
Dr. Kapurubandara completed her medical degree at the University of New South Wales. She undertook specialist training in obstetrics and gynecology at Westmead Hospital, where she also completed a two-year AGES fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery.
She is currently completing a PhD at the University of New South Wales.
Current Practice
Dr. Kapurubandara is based in Sydney, Australia. She practices as a Senior Staff Specialist at Westmead Hospital and holds private clinical privileges at Westmead Private Hospital.
She treats women, girls, and people assigned female at birth with complex benign gynecologic conditions. Her main areas of practice include chronic pelvic pain, advanced endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic floor myalgia, persistent pain, and other conditions requiring complex gynecologic surgery.
Artem Loktev
MD, PhD
Moscow, Russia
Dr. Artem Loktev is a urologist and senior specialist with clinical, academic, and organizational experience in urology. He currently serves as Chief Urologist of the Fomin Clinic federal network in Moscow, Russia.
Expertise and Professional Work
Dr. Loktev specializes in chronic pelvic pain syndrome, neurogenic and non-neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction, neurourology, urodynamic testing, general urology, minor urologic procedures, and selected surgical treatments.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Loktev participates in research, professional committees, international collaborations, and medical conferences. His previous roles have included outpatient, inpatient, and expert positions, as well as lead and chief urologist appointments.
During the past five years, Dr. Loktev has presented on chronic pelvic pain at professional meetings in Russia and internationally. These have included meetings organized by the Russian Society of Urologists, the International Continence Society, the International Pelvic Pain Society, the Society of Urodynamics, Female Pelvic Medicine & Urogenital Reconstruction, and the American Urological Association.
Dr. Loktev also co-founded the Russian Association of Specialists in Chronic Pelvic Pain and helped organize two of the association’s international congresses.
Education and Training
Dr. Loktev received his MD in General Medicine from Moscow State University of Medicine and Dentistry in 2009. He then completed a residency in urology at RUDN University from 2009 to 2011 and postgraduate training in urology from 2011 to 2014.
He earned a PhD in Medical Sciences after completing a thesis focused on the early diagnosis of prostate cancer.
His additional training includes an observership in urogynecology in Saint Petersburg, Russia, in 2020 and an observership in neurourology at Albany Medical Center in the United States in 2023.
Current Practice
Dr. Loktev is based in Moscow, Russia, and has served as Chief Urologist of the Fomin Clinic federal network since September 2024. The network includes 32 clinics.
In this role, he oversees clinical and organizational work across the network’s urology service. His responsibilities include recruiting urologists, leading meetings and case conferences, reviewing medical documentation, and developing clinical recommendations for diagnosing and treating urologic conditions.
Dr. Loktev also provides outpatient care, with particular expertise in chronic pelvic pain, urodynamics, neurourology, and general urology.
Oriol Porta
MD, PhD
Barcelona, Spain
Dr. Oriol Porta is a gynecologist and pelvic floor specialist with more than 30 years of experience in women’s health. He currently serves as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa in Barcelona, Spain.
Expertise and Professional Work
Dr. Oriol’s main areas of interest include chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, urogynecology, and women’s sexual and reproductive health.
His work emphasizes multidisciplinary, patient-centered pelvic pain care. In 2014, he completed advanced training in chronic pelvic pain at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. This experience strengthened his interest in collaboration across specialties when treating complex pelvic pain conditions.
Dr. Oriol serves on the board of Convergences PP and has participated in international initiatives focused on pelvic health. His research has included pelvic floor disorders, pelvic pain, and biomaterials. He has also taught medical students, residents, and postgraduate healthcare professionals for many years.
Through his clinical, research, and educational work, Dr. Oriol aims to connect scientific knowledge with patients’ everyday needs and improve the recognition and management of pelvic pain.
Education and Training
Dr. Oriol received his medical degree from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1994 and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital General de Granollers in Spain. He later developed a clinical and academic focus on urogynecology, pelvic floor disorders, and chronic pelvic pain at Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa in Barcelona.
He completed an observership at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London in 2014 and earned his PhD through the doctoral program at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 2015.
Dr. Oriol has remained involved in medical education as an associate professor and clinical educator, teaching and mentoring students, residents, and postgraduate professionals.
Current Practice
Dr. Oriol currently leads the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Hospital Universitari Mútua Terrassa. He also continues to teach and mentor medical students, residents, and postgraduate professionals.
As part of a multidisciplinary chronic pelvic pain team, he treats patients with chronic pelvic pain, vulvodynia, pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and other complex gynecologic conditions.
His work focuses particularly on the relationship between pelvic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, and quality of life. He collaborates with gynecologists, pain specialists, physiotherapists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals to provide evidence-based, patient-centered care.
