IPPS Research Development Grant

Supporting promising clinical, research, and educational projects designed to improve the lives of people living with chronic pelvic pain.

About the Grant

The IPPS Research Development Grant is awarded to a fellow, post-doctoral fellow, resident, or junior clinical faculty member who proposes a clinical, research, or educational project with the potential to improve the lives of patients with chronic pelvic pain.

The grant is an IPPS membership benefit and requires mentorship by an IPPS member. International applicants are accepted.

IPPS encourages applications from aspiring researchers across diverse fields, including women’s health, anatomy, education, genetics, gynecology, internal medicine, urology, gastroenterology, psychiatry and behavioral health, sexual health, public health, social work, endocrinology, pain, epidemiology, neurology, physical therapy, and nursing.

  • Abstract — 5,000 characters or fewer
  • Introduction, background, and justification — limit 1 page
  • Specific aims and hypothesis — limit 1 page, with no more than 3 specific aims

Introduction, Background & Justification

This section should clearly describe the disease or condition being studied, its impact, and the current gaps in knowledge related to the proposed project. Preliminary data should be included when available.

Specific Aims & Hypothesis

Specific aims should be clear, focused, achievable, and distinct from the overall goals of the research. The hypothesis should be justified by current knowledge gaps. Applications should include no more than three specific aims.

Research Design & Methods

The proposal should clearly describe the study design, study population, comparison groups or exposures, interventions if applicable, and primary and secondary outcomes. It should also describe inclusion and exclusion criteria, recruitment and enrollment methods, the statistical analysis plan, and how outcomes will be assessed.

Investigators should carefully consider ways to reduce selection and outcome-assessment bias and minimize loss to follow-up. Risks and benefits to study participants must be described, along with methods for reducing risk.

Whenever possible, validated tools should be used to assess exposures and outcomes. Investigators are strongly encouraged to consult the Sample Research Protocol Template provided by IPPS and published study-design guidelines such as STROBE, CONSORT, and PRISMA.

Additional Application Elements

Abbreviations and references may also be included in the application and do not have a page limit.
