Welcome Message IPPS Chair

Dear Colleagues,

There seems to be no end in sight for the COVID-19 pandemic, but the IPPS is rapidly adapting.  I am happy to announce that the IPPS 23rd Annual Scientific Meeting on Pelvic Pain will take place virtually through a series of online events from October 10-25.  We have taken this opportunity to innovate and ensure that this year’s virtual meeting provides the same high-quality education as our face-to-face meeting in a more accessible and cost-effective online format.

The pre-conference CLINICAL FOUNDATIONS COURSE (Oct 10-11) will feature interactive case reviews, the post-conference course (Oct 24-25) will focus on integrative pain management merging traditional and alternative therapies using a similar interactive format. The main conference (Oct 17-18) will feature NPR Scientific Correspondent Richard Harris who will discuss the pitfalls of scientific research; a timely subject given the struggles of the scientific community during this pandemic.  Researchers will have the opportunity to showcase their research and interact with their colleagues in virtual sessions, while the top abstracts will be presented and published in Pain Reports.  Lastly, all attendees will be able to interact with a variety of exhibitors and sponsors in similar virtual settings.

Our goal is to conduct a meeting where members from all over the world can easily attend and interact with each other, the moderators, the speakers and abstract presenters. Included in the same registration fee, IPPS members will also benefit from additional programs throughout the year such as virtual Topical Seminars, Journal Club and Case Review!  The Patient Advocate Reporter and the IPPS Resident Scholarships will be awarded for the virtual meeting.

You might be asking yourself, what about our fun yearly fundraiser? How can we possibly top off last year’s silent disco? The fundraising committee came up with an even better idea!  From Oct 9-Nov 1, we invite everyone to take part in the 2020 VIRTUAL CHALLENGE AGAINST PELVIC PAIN featuring a 10K run/walk, 5K run/walk, two Yoga sessions and a Zumbathon!  Take part in one or any combination of events, do something good for your body and help us raise funds for educational programs and research grants. Go to www.runsignup.com to register between Aug 1 and Nov 1, lace up your shoes and complete any of these events on your own time, anywhere, with friends, family and pets. You can even compete as a team or have people sponsor you by donating for your cause.  The most important thing we want you to do with this event is to have fun, take lots of pictures, share your experience, and help us fight pelvic pain.

Stay safe and see you soon,
Georgine Lamvu, MD, MPH (she/her)
